FAQ's

Below is everything you might want to know before ordering. If I missed something, reach out — I'm Daniela, and I'll get back to you myself.

About Our Blankets

What are By The Nook blankets made of?

100% cotton yarn, woven on a Jacquard loom.

The design isn't printed on top — it's woven straight through. The image is part of the fabric itself. That's what gives these blankets their texture, durability, and heirloom feel.

The fringe is part of the weave: two sides are black and white, the other two pull color from the design. These blankets get softer with every wash.

What does "made to order" mean?

Your blanket — personalized or not — doesn't exist until you order it. It's woven just for you, literally.
I design everything here in Pittsburgh, then send your order to my manufacturing partner in North Carolina. They weave it and ship it directly to you.
I love this approach because it means no overproduction, no unsold inventory sitting in a warehouse, no blankets made without a home. It also means a bit of waiting, but it's gentler on the planet, and more intentional all around.

What does a woven cotton blanket feel like?

There's a weight to it. A presence.

The cotton has texture you can feel — substantial enough to matter, light enough to reach for every day. Customers call it "perfect weight and texture." One said it felt like "snuggling under a gorgeous painting."

It softens with washing and use, settling into that worn-in comfort of something loved. If you've ever touched a vintage woven throw at your grandmother's house — that's the feeling.

What sizes do By The Nook blankets come in?

Throw (50x60" / 127x152 cm)

Perfect for one. Drapes beautifully over a couch, travels well for picnics or road trips, and works as wall art when you want to show it off.

Blanket (60x80" / 152x203 cm)

Made for settling in. Big enough to wrap up completely, share with someone you love, or layer across a queen bed.

Can I hang a By The Nook blanket as wall art?

Yes. Many customers use their blankets as tapestries — in nurseries, reading nooks, home offices, above beds.

Use a tapestry rod or decorative clips. The blanket is substantial enough to hang flat. Some people buy two: one to use, one to display.

Why do the colors look different from the mockup?

The proof I send is a digital drawing — it shows the design and personalization, not exact final colors.

Woven blankets don't behave like printed ones. Colors come out more muted, more vintage — that's the nature of the textile. I design with this in mind, and I only list blankets I've sampled and tested myself.

Why does the blanket look different in some of your photos?

Colors look different depending on the light — woven textiles are no exception. I photograph each blanket in different lighting conditions to show that range. No filters.

How much do By The Nook blankets cost?

Throw (50" x 60") $115 – $130

Blanket (60" x 80") $155 – $170

Personalization

How does blanket personalization work?

Four steps:

  1. You order and tell me what you'd like — names, book titles, a quote, whatever the design allows.
  2. I create a proof within 48 hours and send it to you.
  3. You review it. If something's not right, tell me. We'll fix it.
  4. Once you approve, I send it to production.

The blanket doesn't get made until you say yes. You're part of the process.

Can I personalize in other languages?

Absolutely — Hebrew, Arabic, Mandarin, whatever you type, that's what I'll use. And don't forget you'll be able to review a proof before anything gets sent to production.

What happens if I don't respond to the proof?

I'll follow up once after my original message. But if I still don't hear back within 48 hours, I'll send it to production as-is so your order isn't delayed. Hopefully everything looks perfect anyway — but know that I can't fix personalization errors after it's been sent to production.
So please, check your messages (and your spam folder).

Can I cancel a personalized order?

Personalized orders: Yes, anytime before you approve your proof. Once approved, it goes to production and can't be canceled.

Non-personalized orders: These go into production the same day. If I haven't sent it yet, you're good — just reach out.

Do you create custom blanket designs?

Unfortunately, I don't. Here's why: woven blankets are incredibly tricky to design — colors shift in ways I can't always control. I don't feel comfortable selling a product that I haven't sampled, and because By The Nook blankets ship directly from my manufacturing partner to you, I can't stand behind the final result without seeing it in person.

What I can do is personalize any existing design — names, book titles, family names, quotes. That's usually where the magic happens anyway.

Return Policy

What's the return policy?

For Non-personalized blankets:
Changed your mind or didn't love it as much as you thought you would? You can return it within 30 days — just keep it in original condition so I can find it a new home. All I ask is that you handle the return shipping.

For Personalized Blankets:
Because these are made just for you, I can't resell or gift them. That's why I send a proof before anything gets woven — so we get it right together. If something arrives damaged or wrong, send me a photo and I'll make it right for you right away. And if you're truly unhappy? Reach out. Let's talk. I'd rather find a solution than leave you with something you don't love.

What if my blanket arrives damaged?

Oh no — I'm so sorry, that truly sucks! I'll replace it or refund you, whichever works best for you. If you don't mind, please send me a photo — it helps me train my team so it doesn't happen again.

I'll send you a return label — just drop it in the mail when you can. Damaged blankets get donated to people in my community who need warmth.

What if there's a typo on my blanket?

I'm hoping the proofing process helps reduce the odds of this happening, but if the mistake was on my end, send me a photo — I'll replace it, no charge.

If it slipped through on your end, I get it — we've all been there. Reach out and I'll set you up with a discount on a new one.

Ordering & Delivery

How long does it take to ship?

Once in production, blankets ship within 3-5 business days.*

For personalized blankets, that clock starts when you approve your proof — which I usually send within 48 hours of your order.
For non-personalized, production begins the same or next business day.

*Business days are Monday–Friday and don't include US holidays.

How long does a blanket take to arrive?

Most orders arrive within 10-12 days.

Here's how it breaks down: I send a proof within 48 hours. Once you approve, production takes 3-5 business days. Shipping adds another 4-6 business days.

Non-personalized blankets are quicker — they go into production the same day.

If you have a hard deadline, tell me upfront. I'll be honest about whether we can make it.

Do you offer expedited shipping?

Yes! Here's what's available at checkout:

  • Free ground shipping: 4-6 business days
  • Expedited: 3-5 business days ($24)
  • Overnight: 1-3 business days ($60)

Just keep in mind — faster shipping speeds up delivery only. Production time stays the same for all blankets.
Do you ship internationally?

I ship within the United States, but I've made exceptions for international orders on a case-by-case basis. If you're outside the US and really want a blanket, message me — let's see if we can make it work.

A few things to know: international shipping takes longer, I can't guarantee delivery times once it leaves the US, and any customs or import fees are up to your country — I can't predict or refund those.

What happens once my blanket ships?

You'll get a tracking number so you can follow along. Once it's with the carrier, delivery is in their hands — but I keep an eye on every order. If something looks off, I'll reach out before you have to.

Sometimes packages get delivered to the wrong place or lost in transit. It's rare, but it happens. If your blanket doesn't show up, let me know — we'll figure it out together.

What does the packaging look like?

Blankets arrive in a white poly bag. I'm working on improving the unboxing experience soon.

Will the recipient see the price if I ship directly to them?

No. By The Nook orders ship without receipts or packing slips showing the price. You can send a gift directly to the recipient without worrying about them seeing what you paid.

Do you offer gift wrapping or gift messages?

Not yet — but it's on my list. Blankets ship directly from my manufacturing partner, so I can't include gift wrap or a note right now. Hoping to change that soon.

Care & Quality

How do I wash a woven cotton blanket?

By The Nook blankets are machine washable — they actually get softer with each wash!

A few guidelines:

  • Use a mesh laundry bag (protects the fringe)
  • Gentle cycle, cold or warm water
  • Small amount of detergent
  • No bleach (yellows the cotton)
  • No fabric softener (causes buildup)
  • Tumble dry on lowest heat
